Sutton Peck was selected as one of the top-performing offensive linemen at the FBU Top Gun Football Showcase this past weekend in Naples, FL. This honor places Peck as one of 10 out 40 offensive linemen from around the nation, which catapults him to the invitation-only National Combine in San Antonio on January 5-6, 2023. This event will host 300 of the nation’s Class of 2025 top athletes at their respective positions.
Peck, who makes his first appearance on Wylie’s Varsity Football team this fall, said it’s a huge honor to be selected in the top 10 for his position in his Class of 2025. He attributed this achievement to “a lot of hard work” and the school workouts he has been attending this summer.
“School workouts this summer helped out 100% to perform well at this event,” said Peck.
Peck, who has a strong physical presence as a 15-year-old (6’3”, 300 pounds) and has played on the o-line as a center for over 9 years, said this was one of the most competitive football events he has attended. Players from all over the nation including Virginia, Florida, and Hawaii attended this camp.
“Two of the other linemen selected to also attend the National Combine are from Hawaii so it’s cool that I will see them in January,” said Peck.
Peck said leadership was a big focus at this camp, which he believes will make him an overall better player and something he hopes to bring with him to the Bulldogs.
In addition to the exclusive National Combine, the FBU Top Gun Showcase, which is hosted by Football University, gives student athletes opportunities to meet scouts from across the nation.
Peck had the opportunity to “shake hands and form connections” after being evaluated by some of the top recruiters in the country during the 3-day event.
When asked how he handled the stress of attending an event of this caliber, Peck said he is nervous at first, but then refocuses.
“I assure myself I am good enough to be here and remember all the hours of hard work I’ve put into trying to be the best I can,” said Peck.
