After a crazy spring schedule, Wylie’s Theatre Department offered their annual musical theatre camp, which was no small task. In six days, it produced a musical featuring 145 first through eighth grade students who varied in theatre experience. After long days of learning lines, choreography and music, the campers took to the stage at Wylie’s Performing Arts Center on June 7 to perform Willy Wonka, Jr., and the campers whose interests lay in set production had the chance to see Wonka’s world come to life thanks to their efforts.
West Intermediate fourth-grader Nellie Tusing (seen below in the second photo from left) was a lollipop dancer for her first performance ever. She felt that despite it being her first time on a stage it was fun. “I liked to be on stage and seeing all the people,” said Tusing. “I felt nervous but really loved it.”
Tusing said upon arriving she was surprised to see so many other kids interested in musical theatre. She said she plans to attend next year and recommends others do, too. “I loved it. It was fun, and it was very organized.”
