Shaelyn Ward will be a 2021 Wylie graduate, she has verbally committed to play soccer at Angelo State. Her brother, Tyler Ward, was the starting quarterback on the 2015 SemiFinal Team. Both of Shaelyn’s parents are Wylie grads classes of 1994 and 1995.
Shaelyn was diagnosed with Chronic ITP last year. She had issues with her blood platelet level dropping below 44,000 and as a result she had to visit a Hematologist at Cooks Medical. She is now on a drug that has helped stabilize her condition but they were unsure early on if she was going to be able to play the remainder of her junior year or ever again due to her condition.
Shaelyn is a 3 time all district nominee and a 2 year team captain. She was currently holding the #47 spot in our region for state in all classifications combined in points scored. She is a 2 year National Honor Society Award winner and currently ranked in the top 7% of her class, she will be studying nursing at Angelo State. She was being recruited to play soccer by Hardin Simmons, Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State along with Angelo State.
Her dad said “We’re so very proud that she has not let her condition keep her from achieving her dreams and are super excited to see her playing at the next level.”
On a side note: the 2021 class has a group of 12 girls that will be playing soccer, this is probably the largest senior class Wylie soccer has ever had. 6 of the 12 have been playing together since they were 6 years old. Wylie Girls soccer team will be fun to watch this coming season!
