Four Wylie FFA students were state semifinalists in the FFA’s annual leadership competitions this fall.

Samantha Bailey, Breanna Conlee, Kaitlyn Blaylock and Hattie Kirby won 1st place in Public Relations at the FFA’s district and area Leadership Development Events to advance to the state competition, where they were semifinalists in the event.

Kaitlyn also advanced to state in Senior Prepared Public Speaking in Agriscience. She earned the right to go to state by finishing 1st at the district competition and the area competition. She finished 5th in the state in the event.

Wylie won district championships in seven events at the Big Country District Leadership contest at Cisco College on Nov. 14, and the students who competed in those events advanced to the Area IV Leadership Contest at Mineral Wells High School on Nov. 21. The State Leadership Contest was at Sam Houston State University on Dec. 2.

“These students not only competed at a higher level of competition, but they have learned some outstanding leadership skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives,” said Wylie Ag Teacher Dustin Moore. “What an amazing experience Leadership Development Events are for the Wylie FFA students.”

Here’s a look at how all the Wylie students performed in the competition.
