Wylie’s Destination Imagination teams enjoyed amazing success at the Global Finals in Kansas City at the end of May.
Three of the five Wylie teams finished in the Top 6 in the world, which is very difficult to accomplish. The other two teams finished in the Top 30 of their divisions.
The teams were competing against 1,400 other top teams from 37 states and 17 countries such as China, Turkey and South Korea. To get to the Global Finals, the teams had to be among the top two at their regional competitions and one of the top teams at the State Competition.
“Forced laughter,” a Wylie High School team, finished 1st in the world in its instant challenge and 5th in the world in its technical challenge. Team members are Colton McClellan, Declan Sauley, Zach Binkley, Bailey Buck, Christian Barbian, Eden Sauley and Madison Cole. Team Managers are Renee McClellan and David Sauley.
“May-Ham,” another Wylie High School team, finished 3rd in the world in the Improv Challenge category. Team members include: Colton McClellan, Christian Barbian, Ashley Fenton Madison Truax and Hayden Uphoff. Team Managers are Kimberly Bruton and Kim Cheek.
“Chalk It Up,” a Wylie Middle School team that was featured in the April
Wylie Growl, finished 4th in the world in its Project Outreach
category. Their project focused on recognizing and honoring first responders.
Team members included Carlee Nelson, Joshua Heidema, Campbell McCray, Steven
Cowling, Ryleigh Green, Payton Hill and Daisy Smith. Team Managers are Allison
Cowling and Jennifer Heidema.
“Oddly Uncommon,” also a Wylie High School team, finished 15th in the World in the Project Outreach challenge. Team members are Carlie Buck, Cerys White, Keily Perkins, Savannah Alvarez, Avery Cousins and Logan Jones. Team Managers are Angel Buck, Jessica Griffith Carpenter and Diana Cousins.
Screaming Banana Goats, also a Wylie High team, finished 28th in the world in the engineering challenge. Team members included Joshua Fenton, Wyatt Edmiston, Jared Heidema, Kyla Flanagan and Dayra Figuero. Managers were Kim Bruton and Jennifer Heidema. Congratulations to all these teams for representing Wylie so well at the Global Finals!
