September 25, 2024

Wylie Ag headed to the 96th Texas Ag State Convention this past June where four members earned the Lone Star Degree. Wylie recipients include Ethan Hill, Kamryn Hill, Gracie Tate and Dericka Vaughn.

(Left Column) Secretary Kamryn Hill, Chaplain & Sweetheart Callee Smith, Hunter Lovelady, District President Carson Stone, Reporter Brayden Smith, Xavier Cano, Parliamentarian Ethan Hill, and JT Partin. (Right Column) Treasurer Shaylee Meador, Kylee Barnes, President Dericka Vaughn, Sentinal Rylee Wright, VP Gracie Tate, Paisley Holt, Historian Trinity Ham, Mr. Cody Smith, and Mr. Will Pettit.

According to the Texas FFA Association, the Lone Star Degree is the highest degree of membership an Ag student can receive from the Association.

“The Lone Star FFA Degree recognizes FFA members who have received the Chapter degree, been active FFA members for at least two years, completed at least four semesters of agricultural  science at or above the ninth grade level, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, demonstrated their leadership skills, and have shown a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above.”

Additionally, Brayden Smith had the privilege of serving on the Convention Courtesy Corp team. This selection gave him the opportunity to work behind the scenes of the convention, which ran from July 8-12 and recorded an estimated attendance of 16,000 members and guests.

Along with being recognized for their achievements, these students attended leadership workshops, participated in events and activities, and served as the legislative body for the Texas FFA Association.
