Why Are We Bulldogs?

May 5, 2025

Wylie West Intermediate bulldog, Ellie Palumbo, explains why she thinks Wylie selected a bulldog to be its mascot, which was adopted by the Wylie ISD in 1942, according to Al Pickett’s book Wylie: Surviving and Thriving for 100 Years.

Palumbo is the fourth-grade student of ELA teacher Mrs. Peyton Bourland. Sloane and Sawyer Ramos, who are students of ELA teacher Krista Clay, were selected by Palumbo to illustrate for Spike, our beloved mascot.
