The Wylie Independent School District has released its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for children.
The District’s policy is located at www.wyliebulldogs.org under the Parent Tab in Child Nutrition area.
Letters with information about eligibility, benefits and applying are being sent to student households in the student’s first day packet. Information and Applications are also available through Family Access at www.wyliebulldogs.org beginning July 27, 2020. The online application is the preferred method for applying for the school lunch program, however, a paper application may be picked up at the Wylie ISD Administration building at 6251 Buffalo Gap Rd, Abilene, TX 79606.
There are four ways a family becomes eligible for the federal program, including the household income ceiling. Also, students whose families already are a part of either the Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP), the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) are automatically eligible. Other eligibility categories are foster children, homeless students, runaways, migrants and students displaced by disaster.
Wylie ISD is working with local agencies to identify all children who are categorically and program eligible. Wylie ISD will notify the households of these children that do not need to complete an application because they are directly certified. Any household that does not receive a letter and feel it should have may contact Melanie Brewer at 325-692-4353 Ext 1017 or mbrewer@wylie.esc14.net.
To enroll, an adult in the household must fill out an application through Family Access at www. Wyliebulldogs.org. Instructions for filling out the online application as well as Income Eligibility Guidelines for SY 2017-2018 are available on the district homepage under the “Parent” tab in the Child Nutrition Department under the Free and Reduced Meals option.
