Wylie’s spring sports are headed to the homestretch during these very busy final months of school.
Wylie soccer and basketball have ended, tennis and golf were into the playoffs, and baseball and softball were finishing up district. Here’s a look at where each team was doing at press time.
Tennis
The Wylie Tennis Team won its district championship in early April, claiming eight out of 10 available regional spots.
Carson Cole won district in boys singles, Nikhil Kalla and Davyn Williford in boys doubles, Kaitlyn Hathorn in girls singles, Emly Corn and Analeah Elias in girls doubles and Spencer Lin and Ashley Smyser in mixed doubles. All advance to regionals.
Shruti Patel took 2nd in girls singles. Elle Schroeder and Madison Andrews were 2nd in girls doubles, and Zane McCurley and Andrea McMillan in mixed doubles) all finished second to advance.
Andrew Zhang finished 3rd in boys singles and the team Payton Amonett and Jordan McNair finished 3rd in boys doubles.
The Region I-4A tournament was April 18 at Texas Tech University. Those results were not available at press time. Check back next month for an update on the tennis team.
Golf
The Wylie Golf Teams were playing there final round of the district tournament as we went to press.
The Wylie girls won the district championship and advanced to regionals. Wylie golfer Maddi Olson won the tournament as an individual.
The boys finished fourth as a team after the three-round district tournament, and Ethan Stewart-Duke advance to regionals as an individual. We will have more details in our next issue.
Track
The Wylie track team was competing in its district track meet here at Wylie as we went to press. We will have more on the track team in the next issue.
Baseball
Wylie’s baseball team was cruising through district undefeated and had only lost one game all season as of press time. The Bulldogs had fans looking forward to a good playoff run.
Softball
The Wylie softball team was tied for 1st place in district with Brownwood as of press time. We will have more on their playoff run in a future issue.
