Principles of Education is an elective for students interested in pursuing the field of education as a career. We are currently studying the History of American Education from 1600-present. Students were assigned historical periods to research and create lessons for their peers over their findings. The requirements were to lead a 45 minute class, provide an assignment and/or activity to reinforce the material taught and to provide 2 questions for a cumulative assessment that will be given at the end of the unit. Amaya Gauche and Hoa Le led the unit with a lesson about education from 1600-1776. They shared how many students were educated within the home or in small local school houses focusing on basic math and reading skills. Students were then engaged in a few games similar to what children in that time period might have played.
