After 18 years in law enforcement, Officer Cutbirth is happy to be serving as the School Resource Officer for Wylie ISD. Growing up in Edmond, Oklahoma in an environment that loved education, it is no wonder he has settled here at Wylie, teaching several different classed in the West Central Texas Law Academy and the Abilene Police Department (APD) Academy when not working with the school.
After graduating from the West Central Texas Law Academy, Officer Cutbirth began his law career with the ACU Police Department as a patrol officer, working full time at the Taylor County Constable’s Office as a constable at the same time. Once he graduated from ACU, he began a stint with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office before being hired in 2010 by the APD as a patrol officer. In 2015, Officer Cutbirth was selected to be an SRO and he began working at the AISD DAEP. He remained working with AISD until the SRO position at Wylie opened.
With 18 years working to keep his community safe, it is no wonder Officer Cutbirth has several entertaining patrol stories. He shared that one night while on patrol, he and his fellow officers had stopped three individuals suspected of stealing beer. While he has the suspects out of their car, Officer Cutbirth went back to his patrol car, but before he could get there, he ran straight into a low hanging branch, nearly knocking him out! While the suspects were able to hold back their laughter, he admits his fellow officers had no reservations for laughing.
Bringing a carefree attitude to his free time, Officer Cutbirth shares that any time he is not working, he will be with his family. Being a father of 6, it is sometimes difficult to coordinate everyone’s schedules to have a free weekend, but when they do, the family loves to visit amusement parks, camp, or just spending time at home. When home, Officer Cutbirth shares his current hobby is cooking, and his current goal is to perfect homemade pasta!
A family man through and through with a passion for education, Wylie ISD is lucky to be the home of SRO Cutbirth, and hopes to stay that way for many years to come!
