Wylie High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 114 new members this year, bringing the membership total to 185 juniors and seniors.
Holly Kirby, Wylie’s NHS coordinator, said while qualifying for NHS is academic-based, character and leadership are also noted. “To qualify for NHS, students must maintain a 94 or higher GPA for the school year as well as provide teacher recommendations as evidence of their high regard for character and leadership. These students each perform 40 hours of community service (20 hours for newly inducted seniors) adding their work and support to organizations across the Abilene and Taylor County area.”
