Wylie senior Mariana Pye won state championships in two different events, and Wylie won the 2nd place sweepstakes award at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association state meet this spring.
In addition, Wylie students took home four of the six scholarships given at the meet. The Number Sense, Calcuator and Math teams all finished in 2nd place in the state, and the science team finished 4th. Argyle won the 1st place Sweepstakes trophy and took 1st place in all four of the team competitions.
Mariana was simply dominant at the competition. The senior took 1st place in Number Sense and Calculator and finished in 3rd place in Mathematics. She also was named Top Gun of the 12th-grade, meaning she had the best all-around performance of any senior student. The competition names the Top 6 best all-around student in each age-group, and Wylie took four of the six in the senior age group. Caden Ellis was 4th in the Top Gun competition; Brian Fakhoury, 5th, and Bethany Witemeyer, 6th. Al four seniors won a scholarship.
Other Wylie students who were named Top Guns in their age groups were Addison Branch and Wyatt Witemeyer, who were 5th and 6th respectively in the 10th-grade Top Gun competition.
Mariana, Caden, Brian and Bethany made a dominating senior group. In Number Sense, Mariana was 1st; Caden was 2nd; Brian was 6th and Bethany was 8th. In Calculator, Mariana was 1st, Bethany was 2nd, Caden was 7th and Brian was 10th.
In Mathematics, Marianna was 3rd, Brian was 4th, Bethany was 7th and Caden was 10th.
Caden, Brian and Bethany also competed in the science competition, finishing 5th, 6th and 9th respectively.
