High School Math Team 2nd At State

Wylie senior Mariana Pye won state championships in two different events, and Wylie won the 2^nd place sweepstakes award at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association state meet this spring.

In addition, Wylie students took home four of the six scholarships given at the meet. The Number Sense, Calcuator and Math teams all finished in 2^nd place in the state, and the science team finished 4^th. Argyle won the 1^st place Sweepstakes trophy and took 1^st place in all four of the team competitions.

Mariana was simply dominant at the competition. The senior took 1^st place in Number Sense and Calculator and finished in 3^rd place in Mathematics. She also was named Top Gun of the 12^th-grade, meaning she had the best all-around performance of any senior student. The competition names the Top 6 best all-around student in each age-group, and Wylie took four of the six in the senior age group. Caden Ellis was 4^th in the Top Gun competition; Brian Fakhoury, 5^th, and Bethany Witemeyer, 6^th. Al four seniors won a scholarship.

Other Wylie students who were named Top Guns in their age groups were Addison Branch and Wyatt Witemeyer, who were 5^th and 6^th respectively in the 10^th-grade Top Gun competition.

Mariana, Caden, Brian and Bethany made a dominating senior group. In Number Sense, Mariana was 1^st; Caden was 2^nd; Brian was 6^th and Bethany was 8^th. In Calculator, Mariana was 1^st, Bethany was 2^nd, Caden was 7^th and Brian was 10^th.

In Mathematics, Marianna was 3^rd, Brian was 4^th, Bethany was 7^th and Caden was 10^th.

Caden, Brian and Bethany also competed in the science competition, finishing 5^th, 6^th and 9^th respectively.

9th grade: Eaaron Pye-9^th.

Mathematics:

10th grade: Josh Kearney-4th, Wyatt Witemeyer-5th, Andrew Zhang-6th, Ian Sokolnicki-7th, Addison Branch-8th

9th grade: John David Enriquez and Josh Shuler tied for 9th

Science:

10th grade: Josh Kearney-6th, Payton Amonett-7th, Addison Branch-10th

9th grade: Eaaron Pye-8th
