Mary Poppins floats (literally) into Wylie’s new Performing Arts Center tonight for the first of three performances this weekend.
The Wylie Theatre Department is presenting its fall musical in the new PAC for the first time, and after watching the dress rehearsal Wednesday night, I can say whole-heartedly that you will not want to miss it.
Anna Claire Boone, a Wylie junior, is spectacular in the title role, capturing the aura of Mary Poppins perfectly, and Wesley Horn pulls off the happy-go-lucky Bert with all the body language and mannerisms of Dick Van Dyke but with a slightly better accent!
The Wylie students who play the Banks family are equally as impressive, as are all the characters in the musical.
Of course, the best thing about Mary Poppins is the music and all the favorite songs are performed masterfully. Mary Poppins, Bert and the children even dance on the rooftops with the chimney sweeps.
The Wylie students take full advantage of their new Performing Arts Center, with beautiful sets, lights and sound and are even able to make Mary Poppins float away. The atmosphere is quite an upgrade from a school cafetorium, and parents don’t have to head to one of the local colleges to get a good seat.
If you can’t make it to tonight’s performance at 7 p.m., you can also catch the show Saturday night at 7 p.m. or Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
