Just One Will Impact Many

September 25, 2024

Starting Thursday, September 26, Wylie’s Bulldog Protection Program is challenging each student to make an impact and donate just one item to help stock Care Closets located at each of the eight Wylie campuses, and to keep it simple, a specific donation item has been assigned to each grade-level rather than by campus. Check out the list to see what item you can bring:

The Just One Drive is the first district-wide donation drive the Bulldog Protection Program (BPP) has hosted and parent volunteer Jennifer Hanner said they are trying to make the event as easy and as impactful as possible.

“The idea is that if each student is willing to contribute just one thing, we can really make a difference,” says Hanner. “We try to operate with a lot of dignity and hope to provide new items or items in excellent condition for our students.”

All donations will be used to stock the central closet for the BPP, which is located on the West Intermediate campus, and then distributed to each of the Campus Care closets as items need to be restocked throughout the year. The closets exist solely to aid students in need with items that range from school clothing and shoes to hygiene products to school supplies. Hanner said Wylie gear and athletic pants are always needed.

Hanner said student or community groups are also welcome to participate. She said the Wylie Ag students built the collection bins for the drive and that the Unified Bulldogs plan to man their own collection table at the varsity football game on Oct. 11.

The BPP began in 2022 as a service project challenge completed by East Junior High’s Destination Imagination team Science Alliance. Since then, the program has transformed into a multi-group supported initiative with student groups at many levels volunteering time and energy to help support their fellow students, including Student Councils at WHS, WJH and EJH; LEAD students at WJH and EJH; East Intermediate’s Bulldog Brigade students; and PALS at WHS who oversee Instagram for BPA. Additionally, BPP partners with Community In Schools, Mentors Care and campus counselors.

Be on the lookout for more details from your campus about how you can help make the Just One Drive a success and more importantly support our Wylie Bulldogs in need.
