The City Council of Abilene officially marked March 14, 2024 as Elsie Stark Day to honor the Abilenean, local baker, and Wylie Bulldog for representing Abilene at the national level. Stark recently appeared on Food Network’s twelfth season of Kids Baking Challenge (KBC), baking her way deep into the competition and the hearts of many.
Although the youngest baker of the twelve kid bakers, Stark finished fifth and made it to the eighth round of baking challenges. On the show, Stark was known for her fun, bubbly personality, heart to encourage her fellow bakers, and facial expressions and cute off-the-cuff remarks that will make the grumpiest soul lighter. She is no different in person. Since her appearance on KBC, Stark has been sharing her love and talent for baking with the community visiting various classrooms and groups.
Stark also runs her own baking business Elsie’s Awesome Sweets & Treats and holds pop-up baking events regularly at Urban Relics, which she did before appearing on KBC. In between baking gigs, Stark takes her academics very seriously as a fifth-grade student at Wylie West Junior High, dances for the Abilene Ballet Theatre, and participates in Wylie’s Destination Imagination (STEM program) as a proud member of the Party Pandas.
Back in December, when the Wylie Growl first interviewed Stark, she wasn’t able to chat about the results of the competition, but she did communicate how much she valued the friendships she made and the lessons she learned during this once-in-lifetime opportunity.
Throughout the show, many cheered on Elsie as she baked through each challenge, and we now can celebrate March 14 as the sweetest day of the year. Congratulations, Elsie! We are excited to celebrate your accomplishments and look forward to seeing what your future holds!
