Wylie East Junior High (WEJH) staff had the opportunity to compete and relax at the same time when they were asked to participate in a friendly coloring competition. The task was easy…print the photo provided and color it.

Tina Jones, art teacher at East, said the coloring contest stemmed from the location of the campus.

“So, we love the view over here of the sunrise at East Junior High and many of the staff take pictures,” said Jones. “Mrs. McCright took an amazing picture one morning, and I decided to have my Art II kiddos paint it in an art style of their choice. I was sharing my kids’ work with Mr. Goodenough and the rest of our staff, telling them they really need to see them hanging in the hallway…Mr. Wilke responded with the idea of making it a coloring page. With the help of Chat GPT, the coloring page was created. I showed Mr. Goodenough, and he suggested we have a staff coloring contest.”

Coach Percival, First Place

Teacher Janna McGary said the activity wasn’t required, but it was one of many activities her campus offers to cultivate a positive, team environment.

“Our admin does a great job of keeping people involved and doing fun things just to remind our staff to enjoy each other and being here at WEJH,” said McGary. “They are great at reminding us to not just feel like we come in, we teach, we leave, but that we work at a great place where we all invest in everyone.”

McGary said there was even a prize provided by principal Robert Goodenough.\ She received second place; the third-place winner is instructional aide Gabriela Acosta with first place going to Coach Zach Percival.
