Wylie’s High School Swim Team had a strong showing at both its district and regional meets in February.
At the district meet, nine Wylie students earned spots at the Region 1 5A meet in 14 individual events and in four relay events. The girls were 3rd as a team, and the boys finished 4th.
“We almost tripled what they did last year,” said Wylie swim coach Casey Pacheco. “We qualified all of our relays.”
Pacheco was even more impressed with his team’s performance at the Region Meet.
“Everyone made it into the finals portion except three,” he said. “We really swam well at regionals.”
Here’s a look at all the Wylie students who qualified:
GIRLS: 3rd in district, 11th out of 25 in Region• 200 Medley Relay- Tessa Fellona, Lexie Kidman, Alicia Correa, Rylee Messer (2nd in district, Finalist in Region)
• 50 Freestyle- Rylee Messer (4th in district, Consolation Finalist)
• 100 Butterfly- Alicia Correa (3rd in district, Consolation Finalist)
• 100 Freestyle- Tessa Fellona (2nd in district) and Rylee Messer (3rd in district) (Both were Consolation Finalists in Region.)
• 500 Freestyle- Lexie Kidman (4th in district, Consolation Finalist)
• 100 Backstroke- Tessa Fellona (2nd in district, Finalist in Region.)
• 100 Breaststroke- Alicia Correa (4th in district.)
