Gratitude for Veterans

December 11, 2023

In honor of Veteran’s Day, our military veterans and activity duty members were celebrated across our district with displays, programs and meals. Wylie Growl had the opportunity to ask our students about these heroes.

“It’s important to celebrate Veteran’s Day because we wouldn’t be the great country we are today without the veterans who have served our country.”
Rebel P., 7th Grader
Wylie East Junior High

“It is very important for our country to celebrate those who have fought for us because without them, where would our country be?”
Arianna H., 9th Grader
Wylie High School

“They are the last ones standing, and they are the ones that keep us safe from the dangerous guys and because they protect us.”
Nolan R., Kindergartener
Wylie East Elementary School

“Veteran’s Day is important for us to celebrate because it honors people who fought in wars and to thank people for risking their lives for us.”
Kalja, 5th grader
Wylie East Intermediate

“Veteran’s Day is important to honor our veterans and people in the military that serve our country because they protected us. Everywhere I go when I see a veteran, I say thank you for your service and shake their hand and look them in the eye. My great grandpa taught me to do that.”
Brandon C., 2nd Grader
Wylie West Elementary

“I think we should honor our veterans because they have helped us through so many struggles such as World War I and World War II. The men and women that did these things are important people in our history. Some of them have passed from battle or age, some are still out there fighting for what is right. That is why I think Veteran’s Day is important.”
Cecily S., 3rd Grader
Wylie West Intermediate

“Because they helped us stay safe.”
Collins M., Pre-K
Wylie Early Childhood

Because they helped save us from the bad people.”
Jack Q., Pre-K
Wylie Early Childhood

“We need to honor the men and women who fought (and died) for this country. I feel that since they put their lives on the line for us and our country, then they need to be recognized for their service.”
Kimbry D., Sixth Grader
Wylie West Junior High
