Five Wylie Destination Imagination teams qualified for the DI Global Finals in six different challenges based on their performances at the State Competition.
Science Alliance, a team of students from Wylie West and Wylie East junior highs, tied for 1st place in the state. Students on that team are Sarah Varghese, Hannah Varghese, James McCall, Tyler Hawks, Benton Hanner, Kaden Copeland and Sanaa Salvi. They competed in the Technical Challenge.The Detective Ducks, a team of 5th-graders from both junior highs, finished in 3rd place at state in the Improv/Forensic Science Challenge. Students on that team are Liam Chapman, Madilyn Cantrell, Addison Castaneda, Cooper Penney, Alexia Holmes, Whitney Jones and Emmalyn Young.The Metallic Chickens, a team of Wylie freshmen, qualified for Globals in two different challenges, finishing in 4th place at state in the Service Learning Challenge and finishing in 7th place in the Engineering Challenge. Team members are McKenzie McElyea, Abbie Bulls, Kelsie Burleson, Kyle Page, Andrew Snyder, Avery Nelson and Sheridan Johnson.
The Galaxy Goats finished in 4th place at state in the Scientific Challenge to qualify for Globals. Team members are Elijah Bradford, Kaylin Bradford, Carter Edmiston, Davis Edmiston, Fletcher Smith and Callie Wood.
Oddly Uncommon finished in 6th place in the Technical Challenge to advance to Globals. Team members are Avery Cousins, Keily Perkins, Logan Jones, Tanner Jones, Savannah Alvarez, Christian White and Logan Sawyers.
The State Competition was conducted virtually this year, and the results were live streamed Saturday evening. Wylie students watched the award show together at the Wylie Performing Arts Center.
