Wylie’s Kobe George earned 3rd place in Poetry Interpretation at the State UIL Academic Meet in Austin at the end of May.
Kobe was one of five Wylie students who qualified for state in six events during a successful spring competition for the UIL Academic Team. The team won its district championship and finished second at the regional competition. Kobe was the only student to finish in the Top 6 at state.
Kobe qualified for state in two events. He won the regional championship in newswriting and finished 2nd in poetry interpretation. Teammate Anna Claire Boone won the regional championship in poetry interpretation.
Tyler Roberts had the regions’ top score in biology and was 3rd overall in science to qualify for state.
Rushil Choutapalli qualified in calculator with a 3rd place finish, and Mattie Smith placed 3rd in editorial writing to earn a trip to state.
Several Wylie teams finished 2nd at regionals and just barely missed a spot at state. One was the computer science team of Tyler Roberts, Anthony Zhang, Rushil Choutapalli and Yajet Patel. The other was the math team of Anthony Zhang, Rushil Choutapalli, Geoffrey Englin and Morgan Moore.
