On Tuesday, May 5, Wylie ISD hosted a come-and-go retirement party celebrating ten of its educators and staff members for their many years of service to the Wylie community and the profession of education. Combined, Wylie’s newest retirees have over 177 years of service to Wylie and more than 270 total years in education or area of expertise.
As they cruise into retired life, the retirees are looking forward to a range of activities and adventures. You may find music teacher Brack Jones performing his song “Ode to Tom” around town or attendance clerk Sandra Merck slinging yogurt a couple days a week at Frozen Ropes.
For Jo Gipson, with a whopping 41 years of service to the families of Wylie ISD as well as being a Wylie graduate herself, retirement doesn’t mean slowing down too much.
“I am planning on taking a few trips with friends, playing some pickle ball and disc golf, volunteering at church, and I’m definitely gonna spend more time with my family.”
