Leaping lizards! We love our bulldogs, but some other animals have wiggled, cuddled, slithered or swam into the hearts of teachers and students at Wylie East Intermediate.
These little rascals not only make learning fun but also impact educational and behavioral development. According to research by petsintheclassroom.org, teachers across the United States and Canada reported class pets helping in these ways: teaching empathy and compassion; increasing student engagement and responsibility; improving attendance, academic performance and social skills; decreasing anxiety and disciplinary measures; and reducing anxiety.
Teachers, if you have a classroom pet, we’d love to see it. Please email a photo to kjohnson@zacpubs.com and we will add it to our digital version of this story.
