Most Impactful Activity, Class or Teacher
Mrs. Peacock is a teacher that I had freshman year, and she has supported me all four years. She has been to freezing cold soccer games to cheer me on, brought so much fun to my freshman year when I was struggling, talked to me about One Tree Hill, supported me with gifts for my little PALs, and has encouraged me and given me advice about attending A&M.
Most Cherished High School Memory
I would say that my senior year season of soccer is full of memories, moments, and people that I will forever cherish. But if I had to come up with one, I think of when we beat Joshua in a preseason tournament. Joshua is ranked way higher in the state than us, but we pulled out a win in the face of being the underdog and so many different obstacles in the game. That game really united us as a team and the celebration on the bus after was so hype.
Overcoming Challenge & The Lessons Learned
Junior year I was accepted into the PALs program, and I came in pretty shy and timid. I had to work hard to put myself out there and grow into a confident role model for the younger PALs. I have had many experiences with my little PALs that have challenged me, but overall, I think that PALs has shaped me into a better friend, role model, listener, and comforter.
Advice on Succeeding in High School
I would say to do whatever is life-giving to you. Whether that is a sport that challenges you, an extracurricular that maybe your friends don’t do but you enjoy, take classes that push you to be better, or going to school dances and having the time of your life. High school is way shorter than you think, so do things that make you excited and proud of yourself.
Who or what gives you inspiration?
I get so much inspiration from the women in my life who exhibit what it looks like to lead with grace and joy. Specifically, my bonus mom, Tay, and my life group leader, Jamie. Tay, you are my biggest supporter and someone I will always look up to. Jamie, you are someone who always points me to the Lord and someone I can laugh with. Y’all are women who I want to model my life and faith walk after. I love y’all!
Proudest Accomplishment
I would say that I am most proud of getting to the state finals with the UIL Barbara Jordan essay contest. I was the first Wylie High student to make it to the finals, and I ended up getting awarded 6th at State. I worked really hard to write an essay that showed the impact Mrs. Petty has made in our community, and it was cool to see people hear her story.
Who Knew?
I actually went hospice singing for some years with my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Jensen. She would pick me up and we would sing old gospel songs to people who were at the end of life and their families. I usually don’t like to sing for people, but that was something I looked forward to on Thursdays.
Thank You So Much
I would like to thank so many teachers that have poured into me and pushed me to be better: Coach Oglesby and Richardson, Lojo, Mrs. Kirby, Mrs. Hood, and Mrs. Peacock. I also wouldn’t be where I am without the support and love of my family in the highs and lows of life. And thank you to Beltway Students and my life group leaders for welcoming me with open arms and being such a light in my life.
