School Activity, Class or Teacher Impact
Football and Track and field have impacted me the most. They have given me the work ethic and discipline that I demonstrate today. The coaches have given me life lessons that come with team sports, and I have made a great connection with Coach Hayworth, Copeland, Kates, and Martin. These men have showed me what it takes to be a man and the attributes one must acquire throughout his life. I am extremely grateful for all my teachers who have helped me throughout school, especially Mrs. Taylor. She has been my teacher for all four years of my high school career. She exemplifies excellence, independence, the importance of motherhood, and how to balance jobs, sports, school, and home life. She has given me great advice and of course helped me learn and excel in Spanish. All of these people have helped me understand valuable life lessons and have given me clarity in times of despair.
Most Cherished High School Memory
My most cherished memory is being in class with my friends. I enjoy laughing and spending time with the guys, and the light heartedness in it all. High school is very stressful at times and having the moments where there isn’t a care in the world and just having fun is the best.
Overcoming Challenge & Lessons Learned
A challenge I have overcome is urges. I had a violent urge and acted on it during school. This resulted in me punching one of my teammates and sending him to the hospital. My punishment was 20 days in DAEP. Being in there with those kids made me realize that this mistake does not define me. It demonstrated that I am stronger than most and can control myself. I came back to football after the 20 days and felt brand new, clean of my wrongdoings and ready to prove that it did not define who I am inside.
Advice for Underclassmen
Be yourself and have fun. Enjoy the little things, because soon they will be gone.
My Inspiration
My family gives me inspiration. My dad came from Mexico and immigrated in his early teens. He worked for everything he has now and has built a very successful family. He shows me anything is possible. My brothers are very successful in their field and show me anything can be accomplished through hard work and dedication.
A Proud Moment
Being a three-time regional qualifier for shotput. Shotput is something I tried in 8th grade and have fallen in love with ever since. I started with no technique and have pretty much self-taught everything I know. It showed me I can do anything I put my mind to, and dedication goes a long way. I have always been undersized in shotput and being underrated fueled me to beat those bigger kids at the meets.
Who Knew?
I am an extremely caring individual. Any little thing i can do to brighten someone’s day I take it, because it makes me happy to know I’ve helped someone
Gratitude Moment
