The Wylie Varsity Belles earned sweepstakes awards on all three of their routines performed at an ADTS Dance Competition on Feb. 4th at Rockwall Heath High School.
The Belles entered three team routines in the competition (Military, Pom and Kick), plus they entered one officer routine and two solos.
The team received Sweepstakes, the Gussie Nell Award of Excellence and a Division 1 on all three routines. Teams cannot score below a 90 from any judge to earn the honors. The Military and Kick routines also earned Judges’ Awards given for a strong presentation in the category. Judges Awards also require a minimum score of 93 or above from every judge.
The Belles also received Best Overall Gold for presentation, precision and choreography. They also won awards for Academic Champions, and received the sportsmanship award, which is voted on by all the teams at the competition.
The Military routine was choreographed by Sonripend Steps instructor Haley Boatright. The Pom routine was choreographed by the Junior Belles Director Rebecca Roberts, and the Kick routine was choreographed by Varsity Belles Director and Sonripend Steps owner/instructor Lindi Connally.
The Wylie Belles officers also earned a Division 1 award for their Jazz Routine. Officers are Claire Preston, Captain; Madi Thompson, 1st Lieutenant; Zoe McCurley, 2nd Lieutenant; Belgica Smith, 3rd Lieutenant, and Heather Donecker, 4th lieutenant. Heather choreographed the officer Jazz Routine.
Soloist Lexi Gregory and Ashley Fenton also received Division 1 awards for their solos.
Other members of the Wylie Belles are Kimberley Caldwell, Hannah Lanier, Emily Stanaland, Adyson Jeter, Laurol Lemke, Carli Ohlemacher, Ashely Saenz, Chloe’ Martin, Brianna Gomez, Sadie Okerstrom, Katye Phillips and Madison Williams.
