Ag Team Cleans Up At Competition

June 11, 2018

The Wylie Ag Mechanics Team had a great spring, competing at shows in Fort Worth, San Angelo, San Antonio, Kerrville and Houston and bringing home awards from all five locations, including a grand champion of their division award from the show in San Antonio.

Students from Wylie’s FFA and Ag Mechanics classes created a 14-foot fire pit, a smoker and a 16-foot utility trailer to take to the top Ag Mechanic Shows in the state. They earned more than $10,000 in scholarship money at the shows, as well as some premium money and lots and lots of equipment, such as welding helmets, wrench sets, safety glasses that will be used in the Ag Mechanics classes.

Here’s a look at how the students did at each show.

Fort Worth

The Fire Pit team of Daylon Moore, Austin Tucek, Cade Blackwell and Hunter Harris won Reserve Grand Champion of Class.

The Smoker Team of Kade Dickson, Colin Scalia, Andrew Rodriguez and James Isbell received Reserve Grand Champion of Class.

Hill Country

The Fire Pit Team of Daylon Moore, Austin Tucek, Cade Blackwell and Hunter Harris received Grand Champion of Class and Reserve Grand Champion of Division. The team also was named the Reserve Grand Champion Showmanship Team.

The Smoker Combo team of Kade Dickson, Colin Scalia, Andrew Rodriguez, and James Isbell received Reserve Champion of class.

San Angelo

The Trailer Team of Kade Dickson, James Isbell and Colin Scalia received Reserve Grand Champion of Class.

The Fire Pit Team of Hunter Harris, Daylon Moore, Cade Blackwell and Andrew Rodriguez received Grand Champion of Class and RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION OF DIVISION

San Antonio

The Fire Pit team received 4th in class. Team members were Hunter Harris, Daylon Moore, Cade Blackwell and Andrew Rodriguez.

The Trailer Team received 1st in class and GRAND CHAMPION of the division. Trailer team members were Kade Dickson and Colin Scalia.

Houston

The 16-foot utility trailer shown by Kade Dickson and Colin Scalia received a blue ribbon the first day and took home 3rd place in their class the next day.

The students are judged not only on their craftsmanship but also on their ability to talk about their item and how it was built.  Congratulations to the Wylie Ag students for their great accomplishments this spring.
