School Board Swap

August 18, 2025

The 2025-26 Wylie School Board will look similar for the upcoming school year but with one change. Brian LaCroix will replace Mike Awtry in Place 2. Awtry joined the school board in 2014 and has seen the district change and grow considerably over time, and said his time serving in this capacity has been positive, crediting the people he has worked with over the years.

“I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the board for 11 years. I always said I would stay as long as my daughter was in school. Since she is graduating, so am I,” said Awtry. “It was a blessing to serve with all the wonderful and hard-working teachers, administrators, staff and Superintendent Joey Light. I’ve enjoyed the friendships with each one of them and with my fellow board members.”

Awtry feels LaCroix will fill his shoes well. “Brian is an excellent choice for my place going forward and a great compliment to the exceptional board in place,” Awtry said.

LaCroix, who has more than ten years of experience serving on boards for organizations at the local and state-level, said he is looking forward to joining the Wylie board.

“I’m excited to serve this community and the children and staff,” said LaCroix.

LaCroix and his wife Melanie have five children, four of which are Wylie Bulldogs. Their oldest graduated from Wylie High School in 2024, and the other three span the campuses of East Intermediate, East Junior High and the high school. Their youngest is not yet school-age.

With no contests for other places, current members will remain serving the district. LaCroix will join Miller Loudermilk (president), Brad Hill (vice president), Cameron Wiley (secretary), Megan Stephenson, Andy Stanton and Laura Donaway.
