Wylie Royals
Seniors (L-R) Paige Hughes, Laura Preston, Wesley Ruff, Zara Mansur, and Ashton Hanson were selected as candidates by their peers to represent Wylie as the 2023 Homecoming queen. Congratulations to Preston who was elected to wear the crown and title for 2023!
Head Chef
Known for cooking up some major plays on the field, senior Collin Bruning accepts 2023 Don Mouser Award during half-time on Friday, Oct. 27. The Don Mouser Award is given to a senior player who displays dedication, desire, and determination. Bruning is the 45th recipient of the award, which was established in 1979 in honor of Wylie student Don Mouser who lost his life to leukemia.
Bump, Set, Spike
Lady Bulldogs of Volleyball brought home the title of District 4-5A Runner Up Bi-District Champions. The season ended in a loss to El Paso High at the Area competition on Saturday, Nov. 4. The team finished the season 10-2 in district play and 25-17 for the overall season.
Coach Shay Cox said her pride has no boundaries for her team. “Incredible group of young ladies who worked hard every day. They worked to not only represent their school with pride and compete well, but worked to be the best ambassadors for Wylie Volleyball. I am so proud and thankful of this 2023 team ”
History Buffs
Wylie High School’s UIL Social Studies team competed in their first Virtual Challenge Meet of the season. They placed 2nd in the state out of 92 teams! Three individuals, Anthony Tovar (4th place), Canyon South (10th place), and Ella McClung (19th place), placed in the Top 20 out of 601 individual competitors. Additionally, Anthony Tovar (1st place), Ella McClung (5th place), and Crisha Mansueto (9th place) placed in the Top 10 out of the 171 seniors who took the test and Canyon South placed 2nd out of the 157 sophomores who took the test. They are coached by Garrett Dowell.
Singing and Dancing a MUST
Wylie High School Theatre is bringing Mamma Mia to our community Dec. 7-10. A cast of 88 students and a crew of 14 will bring to life this musical romantic comedy cherished for its music of 1970s pop group ABBA. Musical theater teacher for Wylie, Madeline Jones, said this performance highlights the talents of her students who are strong vocalists and dancers. Wylie alumni Peyton Bourland choreographed the production. Jones said the show is suggested for ages 12+. To purchase tickets: www.wylietheatre.org.
Many Reasons to Make a Racket
Varsity Tennis finished the season ranked eighth in the state of Texas and as the Regional Runner-up. Beginning their fall season on Aug. 1, the athletes played in 28 tournaments over the course of the season and brought home many individual and team honors. Now, that’s something we can make a racket about!
We Believe We Have the Best
Despite rough weather, Wylie’s Pure Gold Band marched in the finals for the 5A Area A East Marching Band competition on Oct. 28 at Lowry Field in Lubbock, Texas. Placing fourth, they earned the highest recognition since Wylie became D2-5A and only missed competing at the state competition by two slots.
