A group of 35 Wylie students, family and friends descended on the streets of London from May 29-June 7. They enjoyed sightseeing throughout London and surrounding towns, including trips to Oxford University and Stratford-on-Avon. Day tours across the countryside allowed the group to tour Windsor Castle, the childhood home of William Shakespeare, and the home of his wife and poet Anne Hathaway. With the trip being theater-focused, the group enjoyed touring the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, which is the oldest theatre of its kind still in use in London, as well as participating in theater workshops led by professional actors from the West End, which is London’s theater district like Broadway in New York City. In the evenings, students enjoyed the musicals Phantom of the Opera, Mama Mia, and Grease.
Wylie’s Theater Department offers the opportunity to travel domestically or abroad each summer and is open to any Wylie student and their families. While the trip usually centers around the theater, there are many opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, and enjoying local eateries. Next summer’s plan is to go on a trip to Hollywood, California.
