Running With the Pack

September 18, 2023

Senior Hudson Bearden and junior Casen James are gearing up for what they hope to be a busy season of running flags and hyping up the students at Wylie High School as members of the newly formed Dawg Pack.

Students have been running flags when the Bulldogs score touchdowns over the years, but this is the first time it has truly been an official group. “My ultimate goal is for them to be the student section rally leaders,” says Reagan Berry, principle for Wylie High School. “I want to give more students a leadership role and an opportunity to engage in our school, our team, and our students.”

And this is something Bearden and James are ready to take to the next level. They are eager to represent the school and pump up the students as much as possible. Last year, Bearden helped run the flags, but he believes with more organization this year, they will make an even bigger impact. “Being more interactive with the crowd, helping the cheerleaders, and being able to contribute to the hype and energy of the game, is a great opportunity,” says Bearden.

James, who will run flags for the first time, says he is grateful to be involved. “I love all sports and enjoy watching football but didn’t enjoy playing,” says James. He believes student involvement at games can change the atmosphere, which is something in which he is excited to be a part.

Also running with the pack, are Trevor Short, Tate Heuerman, Aubrey Farmer, Mairen Smith, Selah Appuglies, and Kate Kelfstrom.
