Wylie’s powerlifting team had an amazing spring competition season, winning a team state championship and three individual state championships in March.
X’Zavier Collins, Jaxon Lunsford and Joel Scott all won state championships in their weight classes.
But as impressive as that is, it gets even more impressive. X’Zavier set four state records, and Joel set two.
X’Zavier competed in the 308-pound class and set records in all three of his lifts. Plus he set a record with his overall score of 2,100 pounds. His score beat the second place finisher by 335 pounds and surpassed the previous record by 190 pounds.
Jaxon competed in the 275-pound division and lifted an overall 1,865 pounds, which was 135 pounds more than the 2nd place finisher.
Joel competed in the 181-pound division and set records in the squat and with his overall score of 1,760 pounds.
Wylie also was dominant as a team. Wylie won the team title with 21 points. The team that came in 2nd had 14. Marcus Rose, Landry Carlton, Val Wylie and Cayden Clay were Wylie’s other state qualifiers who helped power Wylie to the team title.
On the girls’ side, four lifters qualified for state.
Brylee Ross finished first in her weight class at regionals to qualify for state. Marissa Moschetto and Jazlyn Landers both finished 2nd at regionals. Kerah Weir finished 3rd. Dericka Vaughn just missed qualifying for state, finishing 4th as the alternate.
