Destination Imagination Regional Results

Wylie’s Destination Imagination program had another amazing showing at its regional competition at Midlothian High School on Feb. 26.

Wylie senior Carlie Buck won both of the scholarships awarded at the competition, and seven teams qualified for state in nine challenges. The Metallic Chickens and the Mental Milkshakes each qualified for state in two challenges.

All 12 Wylie teams placed in the Top 6 of their divisions, and four teams won first place in Instant Challenge.

Here is a complete list of the teams and their awards:

ADVANCING TO STATE ON MARCH 26:

HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS

The Metallic Chickens
1st in the scientific challenge, 2nd place in the improv challenge and advanced to state in both. They also had the highest Instant Challenge score in both challenges and won a Renaissance Award.
Team Managers: Tonya McElyea and Melissa Bulls and Julie Page and Michelle Burleson.
Team Members: Abigail Bulls, Sheridan Johnson, Kelsie Burleson, McKenzie McElyea, Kyle Page, and Avery Nelson.The Mental Milkshakes
2nd in the engineering challenge and 2nd in the fine arts challenge. They advanced to state in both.
Team managers: Jessica Carpenter, Angel Buck, and Valerie Anderson
Team Members: Carlie Buck, Seth Bergan, Blaze Valentine, Fiona Starks, Ryan Ross, Mia Chavez, and Carson Wells.

CARLIE BUCK
Wylie senior Carlie Buck won both of the scholarships given at the Regional DI Competition. In addition, she, Avery Cousins and Sheridan Johnson won Magellan Awards, given to students who have participated in all of the various challenges over the years.

 

JUNIOR HIGH TEAMS

Science Alliance
1st in project outreach.
Team Managers: Jennifer Hanner and Kim Cheek
Team Members: Gentry Connor, Benton Hanner, Tyler Hawks, Max Thornton, Arianna Paasch, Kaden Copeland, and Noah Flores

Odd Spicy Bananas
2nd in project outreach and had the highest IC score.
Team Managers: Andrea Chavez and Joy Gollihar
Team Members: Carter and Davis Edmiston, Farren Gollihar, Madeline Chavez, Landon Hicks, Sophie Stallings, and Ruby Todd

Galaxy Goats
2nd in the fine arts challenge.
Team Managers: Naomi Wood, Lettie Morrow, and Amber Jansa
Team Members: Amelia Williams, Fletcher Smith, Callie Wood, Hussein Gheni, Harper Pizzeck, Abigail Slavin, and Luke Morrow

 

ELEMENTARY & INTERMEDIATE TEAMS

The Meta-Builders
1st in engineering.
Team Managers: Ryan Lynn and Abbie Van Cleave
Team Members: Conlan Paasch, Audrianna Ramolia, Marcus Nguyen, Zaina Lynn, Katherine Sanchez, Kai Perry, Clayton Hanner

The Creative Koalas
2nd in the improv challenge.
Team Managers: Tiffany Jenkins and Yurika Boulware
Team Members: Caleb Harris, Alyssa Boulware, Lyncoln Calvery, Gabriel Diaz, Emory Lawrence, Claira Jenkins, Abigail Lazaroff

Oddly Uncommon
2nd in the fine arts challenge and had the highest Instant Challenge score. Savannah Alvarez and Keily Perkins won Spirit of DI awards.

The Quirky Quacks
3rd in the engineering challenge.

The Detective Ducks
4th in the fine arts challenge.

ELEMENTARY & INTERMEDIATE TEAMS:

The Party Pandas
3rd in the scientific challenge and had the highest Instant Challenge score.
Team Managers: Tamara Pizzeck and Christi Stark
Team Members: Jak Barnes, Emberly Connor, Charlotte Pizzeck, Paige Ponder, Elsie Stark, Chandler Young, Kendall Young

Protonic Silly Salmon
6th in the fine arts challenge.
Team Managers: Melissa Alavarez, Savannah Alavarez, Abigail Lee
Team Members: Christian Alvarez, Raylee Cheyne, Cambrie Egbert, Claire Green, Taegen Jenkins, Hannah Lee, and Chance McDonald

 

Update: Four DI teams placed at state and advanced to the GLOBAL competition. The Metallic Chickens were state champs in their scientific challenge. Also advancing to Globals were Science Alliance, Mental Milkshakes and Galaxy Goats.
