Most kids dream of growing up and being in a movie, but for Wylie 3rd-grader Kynzie Colmery, being in a movie is not just a dream.
The Wylie West Intermediate student has already been there and done that. 
Kynzie has a supporting role in an upcoming movie for the Amazon streaming service, PassionFlix. She also has appeared in several commercials and in a YouTube show called Kid Ninja produced by the streaming service New Sky Kids. And she was just about to fly to Atlanta to start filming a mini-series for HBO in mid-November.
Misty Colmery, Kenzie’s mom, said her daughter has loved her acting experiences.
“She really likes being on set,” Misty said. “It’s awesome. Her agency is really good.”
Kynzie was about 3 when her mom entered her in a beauty pageant, mostly because her older sister had done pageants when she was little. Misty realized that her daughter was a natural on stage.
“She loved being on stage,” Misty said. “She used to be shy and quiet and clingy, but she’s very outgoing when she’s on stage.” 
So her mom began to search for a modeling agency. When Kynzie was in kindergarten, she signed with Spark Talent in the Dallas area. Since then, she has appeared in several commercials and in two episodes of Kid Ninja.
But landing a role in the movie Tangled, based on the best-selling romance book by Emma Chase, was on a whole other level.
“It’s really fun, and it’s really big for me,” Kynzie said. “Everyone was super nice to me.”
Kynzie went to Atlanta three different times to film her parts in the movie. She plays the niece of the male lead Drew, who is played by Josh Plasse. Josh has previously appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, The Baxters and as Wesley in the iCarly reboot for Paramount+.
Misty said everyone was very nice to Kynzie, particularly Josh, who teased her and came up and introduced himself to Misty. Kynzie said Josh was her favorite of the actors/actresses. She also was
impressed that she had her own room to wait in between takes on one set and her own office on another set.
“I had my own room, bathroom, closet,” she said. “There were bunk beds. We had a lot of food and drinks. I didn’t expect to have my own office, and I didn’t expect to have super long breaks, and we had to do a lot of takes.”
Kynzie said she did not mind the long days and the multiple takes. She mostly loved everything about the experience.
“It’s just easy for me to memorize stuff,” she said. “It was super easy, and it was really fun.”
The movie still is in production, and a release date has not yet been announced.
Kynzie is a veteran of doing auditions. Her agency has landed her auditions for Nickelodeon and Disney, although none has worked out yet. Doing auditions is not her favorite thing because they can really drag along. 
“Really long ones make me tired,” she said.
She prefers shooting movies over commercials.
“Commercials are nice too, but I get to know the others better in the movies,” she said. “It’s really cool.”
Kynzie, who has participated in gymnastics and ballet locally, has also taken acting lessons. And she appeared on stage in the McMurry production of The Miracle Worker.
She said performing live is much different than shooting a movie.
“If you mess up, you can’t edit or anything, and there’s a lot more people,” she said. “But it’s super fun.”
Misty said her daughter has an instinctive ability to get into character and portray emotions.
“She wants to know the back story, and she wants to know how the character is feeling,” Misty said.
Now that Kynzie has worked on a movie, she is eligible to become a member of the Screen Actors Guild. She hopes to land some jobs in other movies in the future, and her mom said Kynzie is in the driver’s seat as far as what the future holds.
“Right now she really likes it,” Misty said. “She knows if she ever doesn’t like it, we will stop.”
Kynzie said her friends are pretty impressed with her movie star status.
“They think it’s really cool,” she said. “They think I’m really lucky.”
